The advantages and disadvantages of keeping animals in zoos. Most people would agree that zoos are important for the preservation of animals. However many others believe that animals are like prisoners in zoos and would be more happy in their natural habitats. Unfoubtedly, this suggestion has both advantages and disadvatages. Keeping animals in zoos does indeed have a lot of advantages. First of all, people can see wild, beautiful, exotic animals. They can see how animals live and behave. Secondly, animals have good life conditions in zoos. People take care of animals, the animals are safe. People do not kill them. Animals live as close to the natural habitat as possible. For instance, water and other natural barrieres are used to separate animals from each other and from the visitors. On the other hand, keeping animals in zoos is harmful for them, since they are forced to live in an unnatural habitat. There is not enough living space in the zoos, and this makes animals unhappy and restless. It is also true that some animals do not proliferate in zoos. The worst thing is that animals in the zoos would never be able to exsist in their natural habitat alone. I think that keeping wild animals in zoos is more benefical than harmful and that it is profitable for all animals, because they have good protection. They can feel safe.

He discovered the Islands of Dominica, The lesser Antilles, Puerto Rico. After 40 days of sailing, arriving in Castile, he notified the government of the opening of a new route to Asia.

I’d like to tell you about my summer trip to the sea. Last year my family and I went to Anapa. I was very interested in this resort, that’s why I often took pictures of beautiful places there. We were very lucky with the weather. The sea was warm. That is why my sister and I swam for a long time. Our parents couldn’t make us to come back to the beach. It was funny!
In the evening we went to the park. There were a lot of side-shows in it. I tried all of them and I liked them very much.
We had a very interesting menu for our breakfasts, dinners and suppers. There is a lot of fruit in it.
We stayed in the hotel. There was a garden near it. There were many flowers in the garden.
It was the best holiday in my life!

Travel is thought to broaden people’s mind in the sense that living in another re allows them to compare it with their own. People travel to widen their scope and they want to see what is on the other side of the world. Travelling we enjoy different places, meet different people and try different food. Almost all people like travelling because it’s very interesting for them to get acquainted with unknown people and with their culture, to get new impressions, to see new places, towns and countries.

People of our planet can’t live without travelling now. Those who live in the country like going to a big city and city-dwellers usually spend their holiday on the beach or in the mountains. People can travel by plane, train, boat, car and on foot.
Traveling by plane is very comfortable and convenient method, but it is difficult to buy tickets. When you travel by plane you don’t spend a lot of time going from one place to another, but it is very dangerous kind of movement. I can say that flying is a thrilling thing.
Some people prefer travelling by boat. It is so wonderful: to feel the fresh sea wind, to hear the cry of the sea-gulls, to see the rise and fall of the waves. Hitch-hiking is one of the most popular kind of movement. It interesting too, because you can see many things in a short time. There is no need to buy tickets.
And also people like to travel on foot. During hikes we can see a lot of interesting places, sometimes we can meet interesting people. There is no need to hurry up. Traveller on foot: lives constantly in present. Tastes differ. That’s why it is up to you to decide which means of travelling you prefer. All means of travelling have their advantages and disadvantages. And everyone choose one according to their possibilities, plans and finance.
And now I would like to tell you about my going to Sochi. This summer we’ve decided to go to the beach. My mother, my father and a small brother and I were so happy because it was a great rest at the seaside. We travelled by train. I can say that with a train you have speed, comfort and pleasure combined. I like this kind oftravelling. If you want to eat you can have a meal in the dining-car; if you want to sleep you can have a wonderful bed in a sleeper. In Sochi we lived in an excellent hotel. Every day we went to the beach, lie in the sun, swim. In the evenings when the sun was setting I was fond of looking at the waves and the sea-gulls flying over the sea. Sunbathing, jogging, boating, fishing and surfing are the most popular activities. Beach cities are the centres for easygoing life of styles.
There are many places of entertainment in Sochi. We had a lot of excursions. We saw different kinds of trees, flowers and plants. When I spend my holiday travelling I always take a camera with me and take pictures: the sights of a city, views of mountains, lakes, valleys. After such a nice holiday we were glad to return home. East or West, home is best!

Ferdinand Magellan
In the sixteenth century, an age of great marine and terrestrial exploration, Ferdinand Magellan led the first expedition to sail around the world.
As a young Portuguese noble, he served the king of Portugal, but he became involved in the quagmire of political intrigue at court and lost the king’s favour. After he was dismissed from service to the king of Portugal, he offered to serve the future Emperor Charles V of Spain.
A papal decree of 1493 had assigned all land in the New World west of 50 degrees W longitude to Spain and all the land east of that line to Portugal. Magellan offered to prove that the East Indies fell under Spanish authority.
On September 20,1519, Magellan set sail from Spain with five ships. More than a year later, one of these ships was exploring the topography of South America in search of a water route across the continent. This ship sank, but the remaining four ships searched along the southern peninsula of South America.
Finally they found the passage they sought near a latitude of 50 degrees S. Magellan named this passage the Strait of All Saints, but today we know it as the Strait of Magellan.
One ship deserted while in this passage and returned to Spain, so fewer sailors were privileged to gaze at that first panorama of the Pacific Ocean. Those who remained crossed the meridian we now call the International Date Line in the early spring of 1521 after ninety-eight days on the Pacific Ocean. During those long days at sea, many of Magellan’s men died of starvation and disease.
