New Year is the most long-awaited (долгожданный) holiday. Many people associate it with magic and gifts. First of all it is surrounded by the wonderful smell of tangerines and Christmas trees, which helps to create a festive mood (праздничное настроение). People of all ages truly (искренне) believe that in New Year their goals (цели) and wishes will come true. New Year is an international holiday, but in every country it is celebrated in many different ways (разными способами) and each family has their own traditions. For example, in Australia, people celebrate the New Year on the beach or go on picnics with friends. In Italy, the New Year begins on January 6. Here people believe in the good fairy Befana, who gives stars and gifts for everyone. In Israel, people at on the New Year eat only sweets and avoid bitter (горький) food. In Spain on this day there is a tradition to swallow (глотать) one grape (виноград) for every time the bell chimes (звон курантов) and make a wish. On New Year my family and I decorate the house and the Christmas tree and give each other gifts, wishing success (успех) in the New Year. Вот и наступил Новый год! Я с друзьями очень ждал этот праздник и мы к нему усердно готовились. Папа принес большую елку и мы с ребятами ее наряжали. На верхушку надели ангела, ветви украсили гирляндами и шарами, повесили много мишуры. Под елочку мы поставили Деда Мороза и Снегурочку, а комнату украсили всевозможными снежинками, гирляндами и серпантином. Получилось очень красиво. Взрослые нас похвалили за наше старание и пообещали, что Дед Мороз обязательно нам принесет подарки. Мы с нетерпением ждали этого момента и каждые пять минут заглядывали под елку. Но подарков все не было… Мы очень огорчились и мама, что бы отвлечь нас, позвала пить чай с тортом. Потом мы играли в различные игры и участвовали в конкурсах. Было очень весело и мы забыли о том, что должен прийти Дед Мороз. А когда пришло время расходиться, кто-то из ребят заглянул под елку и обнаружил целую гору подарков. Каждый получил то, о чем мечтал. Все были очень довольны. Вот такой у меня был Новый Год!

The new year is my favorite holiday. On the eve of my covers are always a strange feeling’s got to be something joyous and magical. Everywhere holiday atmosphere, all preparing for the holiday - choose beautiful trees, buy different fruits, sweets, prepare gifts for loved ones. Since childhood, the New year is like a fairy tale to me.
We begin to prepare for the celebration in advance. Clean the house, decorate the Christmas tree, decorate the room with balloons, garlands, beautiful toys, holiday lights, candles. I really like the Christmas wreath with pine branches, ribbons and colorful figures of angels. Previously, I’ve only seen this in foreign films, but now the fashion has come to us.
Mom always prepares for the festive table something unusual, an extraordinary. I try not to oversleep the moment of the arrival of the new year under the chiming clock. After the last blow on the street starts fireworks, which can last an hour! Every year we come to visit relatives and friends. We have fun, hold various competitions, dancing, singing. It is always very interesting, but I’m usually asleep. And in the morning, immediately ran to the tree to see what I got.

You know I like the New Year’s Holiday. I think this magic holiday is one of the best holidays in the year. You want to know how we celebrate this holiday. Well, we send greeting cards to our friends and relatives.  We decorate a beautiful New Year tree a symbol of the holiday and buy gifts. My Mum makes a huge cake. She cooks a turkey with vegetables too and makes different tasty things for a holiday table. We invite our friends and have a merry party. We wear funny costumes, sing songs, dance to music, and play games. At midnight we say to each other “Happy New Year!” and give presents to each other and then watch the holiday salute. Sometimes we watch an interesting New Year’s programme on TV. I like such splendid New Year’s parties very much!

On 31 December I and my family decorate a Christmas Tree. Next my mum cooks a lot of food. On the afternoon I go to the snowslides with my friends. On the evening I go home. On the table a lot of food and drinks. I often drink Coke or tea. When on the clock 12pm we make pledges. After that I go to the street for watch fireworks. Usually I find my friends on the street and we talk about New Year!
That’s why I love Happy New Year! 

This holiday happens only once in a year. He is waited by all people on the earth young and old. Look forward. Many are going to meet him in advance as it befits. No, it is not birthday, it is new year! On New Year’s Eve, under peal of bells, all make the wishes. Think, and sincerely hope that it will come true in the coming new year. For example, in our country we have a two-week winter holiday. During this time we decorate the New Year tree, buy postcards and presents for our loved ones, go sledding or skiing with friends and, of course, we have a festive dinner on the night of the 31st of December. Traditionally, my mother makes several salads and sweet pastry. My father cooks a stuffed chicken and buys a bottle of champagne. I especially like the tradition of first footing, observed in England. The first person who arrives in the house is expected to affect the lives of other people next year. It is especially important that this person brings holy mistletoe with him. The custom of exchanging gifts on Christmas and New Year can be seen nearly in every country. In Russia it is common for young girls to read their fortune during this time of the year. They get together and try to see what expects them in the coming year. I’ve heard that in China people paint their front doors in red to have a happy and prosperous year. In Denmark on the New Year day people place many broken plates in front of the door. It symbolizes friendship and brotherhood. The person who has more plates is believed to have more friends. So many countries, so many traditions. All of them are worth considering and admiring.

This year I had a very jolly New Year party.  I invited many of my friends.  As a matter of fact almost all my class came.  Many of them brought decorations for the New year tree. Frankly speaking I was suprised to see so many sparkling balls of different colours.  We started to celebrate at 11 o’clock.  An hour later when the clock struck 12 we started to wish each other all the best. Then we ate festive food.  Also we danced a lot.  We told a lot of jokes and laughed.  In fact nobody was sad that night.  At 4 a. m.  we went out to pull crackers.  Funny enough, some more people who were total strangers joined us in the fun.  Then we returned home and had some cake and tea.  Some hours later my guests went home.  I went to bed and slept till midday.  I hope my next New Year will be not worse!
