Ivanovo is situated on both banks of the Uvod River. It was created from two villages, Ivanovo and Voznesensk, in 1871. until 1932 it was known as Ivanovo-Voznesensk. The first linen mills in Russia were founded near Ivanovo by order of Peter I the Great in 1710. Ivanovo remains one of the major textile cities of Russia, producing cotton, worsted, and silk goods and clothing. Other industries produce machinery for the textile industry.  Ivanovo has a number of institutions of higher education, including textile, chemical technology, power, agricultural, medical, and teacher-training institutes.

New Year Holiday
There are a lot of holidays during the year. Some of them are national, some of them are private or religious but one holiday is celebrated all over the world. It is New Year. This holiday can be called international as each person on our planet enjoys celebrating it.
New Year is a magical time when all the miracles seem to come true. People have a great opportunity to look at their deeds and events during the previous year in order to decide what to do further. All of us are full of hope and joy. We are eager to believe that the New Year is able to be much better. We hope that it brings only the Good and this thought makes us happy.
Before New Year people usually draw the line of theirs aims and plans. They try to finish all incomplete duties and solve all the problems in order to leave all negative things in the past. People decorate theirs houses with bright and sparkling New Years tree. Children write long letter to Santa Claus with all their wishes. Mothers and wives cook special tasty New Years dinner. It is the great moment to spend all the time with people you love.
Each nation has its own rituals concerning New Year celebration like for example, Italians who throw away all the unnecessary things. But in spite of all national differences each of us hopes for better life and optimistic future. We are all the same whispering our devout desires as the clock strikes 12 times.

I like New Year very much. Every year me and my parents celebrate it. This year we celebrated it too. Everybody helped to prepare everything for New Year.  My mother cooked dinner. She cooked a lot of food. Salads,  first course and for dessert was very tasty cake. My father went to the shop to buy New Year tree. When he brought it me and my elder brother become to decorate it. When everything was ready, it was ten o’clock. We sat at the table and began to eat. When clocks struck midnight, we gave presents each other. I was very happy, when opened my present. It was new game. I liked it at once.

I’d like to tell you about my favorite holiday - New Year’s Day. Everybody in Russia likes it very much. People don’t go to work on that day and children don’t go to school because of winter holidays. It is a family holiday and I usually stay at home with my family and friends. My father brings home a beautiful Christmas Tree and we decorate it together with toys, Christmas lights and stars. My mother usually prepares a nice holiday dinner. At midnight we sit around the table, enjoy our meal, give presents to each other and talk about  our new plans and dreams. After that I  watch TV, dance and go for a walk with my friends. There is usually a lot of snow everywhere, so we play snowballs and have fun outside.

Я люблю Новый год. Новые события, может даже новая жизнь. Эта прекрасная атмосфера праздника, в семье. Когда все ждут и предвкушают начало чего-то нового, необыкновенного, счастливого. Когда отпускаешь все события старого года, желая, чтобы Новый год был гораздо лучше прежнего.

New Year’s is the funniest and the most magical holiday of the year. I always wait for it, because this night something mysterious happens. My parents believe that New Year is a holiday home and try to make it merry and cozy. I help them to dress up a Christmas tree and decorate our house for New Year and Christmas. We hang balls and garland  in every room. By evening, my mother prepares holiday dinner and I try to help her. We do a lot of different and very tasty salads and cakes. Mom cooks our favorite duck with apples. In the evening we gather around the table in the large room, turn  onthe lights on the Christmas tree and wait for the arrival of the New Year. We drink delicious drinks and fun. We go to bed only in the morning and we’re happy because Mom and Dad gave us what we were dreaming the whole year. On the first of January, my friends and I go to the city square and have fun under a huge Cristmas tree.
Новый год самый веселый и волшебный праздник. Я всегда очень жду его, потому что в эту ночь всегда происходит что-нибудь интересное и загадочное. Мои родители считают, что это домашний праздник и стараются, чтобы дома было празднично и уютно. Я помогаю им нарядить рождественскую елку и украсить наш дом к празднику нового года и рождества. Мы развешивает по всем комнатам шары и гирлянды. К вечеру мама готовит праздничный ужин и я стараюсь ей помочь. Мы делаем много разных и очень вкусных салатов и пирожных. Мама готовит нашу любимую утку с яблоками. Вечером мы собираемся вокруг стола в зале, включаем огоньки на елке и ждем прихода Нового года. Мы пьем вкусные напитки и веселимся. Мы ложимся спать только утром и счастливы, потому что папа с мамой подарили нам то, о чем мы мечтали весь год. 1 января мы с друзьями ходим на площадь и веселимся под огромной елкой.

Celebrating the first day of a new year is an age-old custom. We gather at midnight on New Year ’s Eve to drink a toast to the coming year. We think about how we have lived during the past year and look forward to the next twelve months. With a new year, we can expect a new life. We all hope that the coming year will bring luck to our families and friends and wish the Happy New Year to everyone. We give and receive gifts and make New Year’s resolutions to break bad habits or to start good ones in the following year. 
In Russia, there once was a custom to tie the feet of people sitting at the table on New Year’s Eve. This was to make sure that they would get together again at this table the following year.
Отмечать первый день нового года — вековая традиция. Мы собираемся в полночь, накануне Нового Года, чтобы произнести тост и выпить за приходящий год. Мы вспоминаем, как мы прожили этот год и ждем наступления следующих двенадцати месяцев. С наступлением нового года можно ждать изменений в жизни. Мы ожидаем, что Новый год принесет удачу нашим друзьям и семьям и желаем друг другу «Счастливого Нового Года». Мы дарим и принимаем подарки, решаем бросить вредные привычки и приобрести хорошие в новом году.
В России существовал обычай связывать ноги сидящих за столом людей накануне Нового Года. Это проделывалось, для того чтобы быть уверенными, что эти люди соберутся снова в следующем году.

In my family accepted to prepare for the New Year in advance. We clean the apartment and get rid of old things, to release the energy of the house. Put and decorate the Christmas tree, garlands hung on the wall. Grandma asks to hang on the Christmas tree and candy tangerine - in memory of how decorated Christmas tree before. If guests come, come up with a festive program of games and competitions and prepare small prizes to each participant according to the number of guests. Usually we celebrate the New Year family - wait until the striking and make a wish. And after the morning guests come, and family holiday turns into a friendly. Under the tree we will put gifts, and another tradition of the New Year - to gather in the morning at the Christmas tree, gifts and find their happy surprise.

New Year is the most long-awaited holiday. Many people associate it with magic and gifts. First of all it is surrounded by the wonderful smell of tangerines and Christmas trees, which helps to create a festive mood  People of all ages truly  believe that in New Year their goals and wishes will come true.

New Year is an international holiday, but in every country it is celebrated in many different ways  and each family has their own traditions. For example, in Australia, people celebrate the New Year on the beach or go on picnics with friends. In Italy, the New Year begins on January 6. Here people believe in the good fairy Befana, who gives stars and gifts for everyone. In Israel, people at on the New Year eat only sweets and avoid bitter (горький) food. In Spain on this day there is a tradition to swallow  one grape (виноград) for every time the bell chimes  and make a wish.

On New Year my family and I decorate the house and the Christmas tree and give each other gifts, wishing success in the New Year.

New Year’s Eve is my favorite holiday and I always look forward  to it.

Новый год – это самый долгожданный праздник из всех. У многих людей он ассоциируется с волшебством и подарками. Во-первых, это всегда неповторимый аромат мандарин и новогодней ели, что создаёт праздничное настроение. Именно в Новый год люди всех возрастов искренне верят в то, что все их заветные цели и мечты сбудутся.

Новый год — это интернациональный праздник, но в каждой стране его встречают по-разному, и каждая семья имеет свои особенные традиции. Например, в Австралии, люди празднуют Новый год, собираясь с друзьями на пляжах или пикниках. В Италии этот праздник наступает только 6 января! Люди верят в добрую волшебную фею Бефану, которая дарит звёздочки и подарки каждому. В Израиле люди в этот день избегают горькой пищи, поэтому на Новый год они едят только сладости. В Испании на Новый год зародилась традиция загадывать желания, глотая по одной виноградинке под бой курантов.

На Новый год я и моя семья всегда украшаем дом и ёлку, дарим друг другу подарки, желая при этом успеха и удачи в Новом году.

Новый год – мой любимый праздник и я всегда жду его с особым нетерпением!
