My Favourite Writer (M. Lermontov)
One of Russia’s most celebrated poets of all times, Michael Lermontov was born in Moscow in the family of a nobleman. He spent his childhood and youth in Tarckany, in the province of Penza.
In 1830 Lermontov entered the Moscow University, but very soon he had to leave it. Then he entered St. Petersburg School of Cavalry Cadets. He finished it and served in the Hussar Regiment of the Imperial Guard.
In 1837 the poet was exiled to the Caucasus for his poem "Poets Death". In 1840 Lermontov was exiled to the Caucasus for the second time. He was provoked into personal quarrel with his schoolmate. The quarrel led to a duel. On July 15th, 1841 the poet was killed. He was not even 27 at that time.
Lermontov began writing when he was very young. One of his first writings to be published was his verse tale "Hadji Arbek".
But he won fame as a poet after his poem "Poets Death" was published. Lermontov’s poems "Demon" "Mtsyri" his great novel "A Hero of Our Time" and his play "Masquerade" are masterpieces of Russian literature.
Whether he wrote poetry, drama or prose, the stamp of his genius was to be found on his works. Lermontov’s influence as of a poet and a thinker on all Russian writes can’t be overestimated.

My Favourite Writer (A. P. Chekhov)
My favorite writer is Anton Pavlovich Chekhov. In my opinion, he is the greatest Russian dramatist and short-story writer. I’m never tired of reading and rereading his plays and humorous stories.
Chekhov was bom in 1860 in Taganrog. In 1879 he went to Moscow, where he studied medicine. Though he practised little as a doctor in his lifetime, he was prouder of his medical knowledge more than of his writing talent.
While in college, Chekhov wrote humorous sketches for comic papers to support his family. He collected the best ones into a volume, Motley Stories, in 1886. The book attracted the attention of the publisher of the Novoje Vremja and Chekhov was asked to contribute stories regularly.
Chekhov, as an established writer, managed to develop a style of his own. Though he never gave up writing comic stories, he began working in a more serious vein. In 1887 "Ivanov", his first play, established Chekhov as a dramatist.
From then on, he concentrated on writing plays, as well as short stories.
Chekhov was seriously ill. He had tuberculosis and knew what it meant. By 1892 his health was so bad that he was afraid to spend another winter in Moscow. He bought a small estate near a village Melikhovo, 50 miles from Moscow. He spent 5 years there, and those were happy years in spite of the illness. He wrote some of his best stories there, including "Ward No.6", several well-known one-act comedies and two of his serious dramatic masterpieces, "The Seagull" and "Uncle Vanya".
"The Seagull’ was first staged in the Alexandrinsky Theatre in Petersburg. It was a complete failure because of the dull and clumsy production. It was a cruel blow to Chekhov. However, the play was successfully performed as the first production of the Moscow Art Theatre in 1898. From then on, Chekhov was closely connected with this theatre and with its founder, K. S. Stanislavsky. In 1901 he married an Art Theatre actress, Olga Knipper, who acted in his play The Three Sisters the same year.
Chekhov’s health went from bad to worse and he had to spend the remaining years in the Crimea and other health spas.
"The Cherry Orchard", his last play, was produced in 1904. Soon after the first night Chekhov died. He was 44.
Chekhov had an immense influence on the 20th century drama. Besides, several generations of writers both in Russia and abroad studied and imitated Chekhov to perfect their own literary style.

William Shakespeare (1564 - 1616) - the great English poet, playwright, novelist. PLACE OF BIRTH England, Stratford-upon-Avon. William Shakespeare is often called the world’s greatest playwright. He wrote comedies, tragedies and historical plays in England in the last part of the 16th and the early 17th century. William Shakespeare was born in 1564 in the English town of Stratford-upon-Avon. His father was a businessman and the town’s mayor. His mother came from a family that owned land near Stratford. William had three younger brothers and two younger sisters. Like other boys of middle-class families, William attended a grammar school in Stratford where he got a good education and also learned Latin. When William was 18 he married Anne Hathaway. They had three children, first Susanna and then twins, a son named Hamnet and a daughter named Judith. Hamnet died when he was 11. We don’t really know what William did during the following years but in 1592 he went to London to work as a writer and actor. It was a difficult job and only the best found work in London. From 1592 to 1594 the Black Death spread across England. Many public places were closed and plays couldn’t be performed either. Shakespeare spent these years writing sonnets and poems. When the theatres opened up again in 1594 Shakespeare joined the best acting company of the country—Lord Chamberlain’s Men. It had the best actors, the best writers and the most famous theatre—the Globe. The Globe was a huge amphitheatre without a roof. The seats were curved around a stage that was built on many levels. Plays always started at 2 o’clock in the afternoon. People who didn’t have the money to buy a seat were allowed to stand in the front of the stage. All kinds of people came to see the shows– housewives, children, noblemen and even visitors from other countries. The company also presented special plays for kings and queens. Shakespeare and his fellow actors were responsible for everything in the Globe theatre. They owned the building and the costumes, they wrote the scripts and they also shared the profits that they made. The actors and writers of the theatre worked together successfully for many years. In the twenty years that he worked on stage Shakespeare wrote 37 plays. They can be put into three big categories:- Tragedies are plays that show the downfall of a main character. His most famous tragedies are Hamlet, King Lear and Macbeth.- Comedies are funny plays that have a happy ending most of the time. A Midsummer Night’s Dream, As You Like It and The Merry Wives of Windsor are among the most popular.- Historical plays are dramas about the lives of some of England’s most powerful kings like Henry IV orRichard II. William Shakespeare retired from the theatre in 1610 and went back to his home town Stratford, where he lived until his death in 1616. At that time the people of England did not know that their country’s greatest poet and playwright had died. They thought of him only as a popular actor and writer.

Краткое содержание книги Джейн Эйр и краткая биография писательницы Charlotte Bronte на английском языке

Jane Eyre begins at Gateshead Hall, where a young orphan named Jane Eyre lives with her aunt, Mrs. Reed, and three cousins. Though Jane’s relations are wealthy, they are incredibly cruel and never let her forget that she only avoids poverty through their charity. As the relationship between Jane and the Reeds deteriorates, Mrs. Reed decides to send Jane away to Lowood school. Before Jane leaves, Mrs. Reed warns Mr. Brocklehurst (the manager of Lowood) that Jane is a liar, and he promises not to forget it. Offended by her aunt’s deceit, Jane vows never to forgive her.

The conditions at Lowood are very harsh. Mr. Brocklehurst is cruel and hypocritical, forcing the students to remain humble by making their own clothes and sharing beds while his own daughters live in luxury. The girls are given meager portions of often inedible food, and the school itself is freezing. Despite these difficulties, Jane manages to find a friend in Helen Burns, a fellow student. When Helen later dies during a typhus outbreak at the school, Jane is devastated. After the typhus epidemic, the unsanitary and grim condition of the school is publicly revealed, and Lowood is put under new management. Jane stays at the school for six more years as a student and two years as a teacher before setting off for a new job as a governess at Thornfield Hall.

At Thornfield, Jane’s pupil is a young French girl named Adèle. Adèle is the ward of Mr. Edward Rochester, the often-absent owner of Thornfield. When Jane finally meets Mr. Rochester, she is intrigued by his quirky personality and blunt way of speaking. Likewise, Mr. Rochester is fascinated by Jane’s honesty and strong convictions. Strange events occur during Jane’s stay at Thornfield: eerie laughs can be heard at night, a mysterious fire is started, and a guest is even stabbed. Mr. Rochester begins to court a local beauty named Blanche Ingram, upsetting Jane, who now recognizes that she has feelings for him. Jane briefly returns to Gateshead to visit the dying Mrs. Reed and learns that she has an uncle, John Eyre, who is looking for her. To Jane’s surprise, shortly after she returns to Thornfield, Mr. Rochester proposes to her rather than Miss Ingram. Their wedding is interrupted, however, by a man who claims that Mr. Rochester is already married. Jane is horrified to learn that Mr. Rochester’s wife, Bertha, is mad and kept locked up in the attic of Thornfield. Despite Mr. Rochester’s pleas for her to stay, Jane secretly flees Thornfield in the night.

Jane wanders for several days until, nearly starving, she is taken in by St. John Rivers and his two sisters. Jane gets along well with the sisters and is slightly intimidated by St. John. Soon, it is revealed that Jane’s uncle has died and left Jane a fortune. She splits this evenly between herself and the Rivers family—who she has recently discovered are her cousins. St. John urges Jane to marry him and come to India as a missionary’s wife, but Jane, knowing he does not actually love her, refuses. After hearing Mr. Rochester’s voice on the wind, Jane takes it as a sign and decides to visit Thornfield.

When Jane arrives at Thornfield, she is shocked to see that the hall is merely a charred ruin. A local innkeeper tells her that Bertha Rochester got loose one evening and set the hall on fire before leaping from the roof to her death. Mr. Rochester took great pains to rescue everyone in the house and, as a result, lost his hand and his eyesight. Jane goes to visit Mr. Rochester and they reconcile. Jane and Mr. Rochester marry, and his eyesight gradually recovers enough that he can see their firstborn son.

My favorite author - J. R. R. Tolkien. This beautiful writer introduced me to a fantastic world full of adventure and discovery. His creative legacy has only a few volumes. But each work is fine and worked out to the smallest detail.
To entertain your young children, Tolkien wrote a children’s book "The Hobbit." This book is the first to discover the world of Middle-earth, on which Tolkien worked for many years. The book became a successful author and has brought great profit. But the most famous and popular work was the trilogy of Tolkien "Lord of the Rings." This work has had a tremendous impact not only on the subsequent books in the fantasy genre, but also the entire world culture as a whole.
In Middle-earth has its own story, which is more than one thousand years. Every people of Middle-earth is endowed with its own language, customs and peculiarities. But first and foremost, "The Lord of the Rings" - a book about good and evil, honor and kindness. It tells the story of true friendship and boundless courage. It shows that the truly great things make ordinary people with a good heart and pure soul.
For me, literary works of JRR Tolkien was a real discovery. I survived along with his heroes many adventures, was not one hundred leagues from them. Tolkien introduced me to the world of the magic.

Alexander Pushkin - great national poet. His personality and work with great force showed such remarkable features of the Russian people, like freedom, multilateral endowments, powerful creative force. One of the distinguishing features of Pushkin as a writer was an extraordinary diversity of his creative talent. In his artistic creativity Pushkin and acts as a lyricist and as a playwright, novelist and how widely and deeply covered in a variety of genres, performed the inner world of human life and human society. This I like Pushkin. Many of his creative powers Pushkin gave create deeply sincere, realistic lyrics. Lyricism pervades his poems and wonderful novel in verse "Eugene Onegin". Contemporaries brought Pushkin as the father of Russian realist lyrics. Lyrics was the way the poet as an opportunity to directly express their thoughts, reflections on life, to convey their feelings and moods, to participate in the socio-political and literary life of Russia. Pushkin’s work strikes me not only a wealth of depth of ideas and images, mastery of the art form, but also the variety of genres. Sociable, who knew how to appreciate people, Pushkin had many friends, has written about friendship. Friendship for him was the force that connects people in a strong alliance for life, infuses courage in the struggle of life.

My favorite writer - William Shakespeare. I’m always amazed at how he passes his plan, every word in every sentence carries some meaning, a subtext that can not solve since the first reading. I think you’re familiar with his works such as "Hamlet" or "Romeo and Juliet." It is worth noting that in my opinion as the opinion of many, "Romeo and Juliet" - You can of his best creations. The tragedy that conquered the whole world, including my heart. At home, on the bookshelf I have is a couple of volumes of his works. I can enumerate the reasons for a long time, but I think you can do that in his works one can find something for themselves, the individual, something that would be close to him alone. Fortunately for myself, I have found such a thing.
