We live in Ukraine. Ukraine - a sovereign state. I want to tell you about the most important Ukrainian holidays that some of them are marked in our time as noted in vosemdesyatye years.
In the life of our country has a date and a memorable event for all citizens of Ukraine. This is a national holiday and the people in this day do not work.
The most important festival in Ukraine - Independence Day is celebrated on August 24. On this day in 1991 was proclaimed the Declaration of Independence of Ukraine and the Ukrainian people began to build a new society. We always celebrate this date.
The most memorable date we celebrate May 9 - Victory Day. On this day we celebrate the anniversary of the victory over fascism in World War II.
International Women’s Day is celebrated on March 8 is similar to Mother’s Day in the UK. On this day, you can see the men who buy or bring flowers. Children of mothers give gifts or send postcards when they are away from home. We congratulate our friends mothers sisters and teachers.
May Day - Labor Day around the world.
The recently introduced new national holidays. They have religious origins. It’s Christmas and Easter.
Ukraine has also celebrate New Year Christmas and Easter.
Christmas - it is the day when Christ was resurrected. Christmas in Ukraine celebrate on January 7. In Europe and America it is celebrated on December 25. At Christmas, people celebrate the birth of Jesus Christ.
Easter - this is the day when Christ was resurrected. On this day, we go to church bake cakes and paint boiled eggs. Easter symbolizes the resurrection of Jesus Christ. Kids enjoy this holiday because of the traditionally brightly colored eggs and special Easter cakes. Cakes are sold in every bakery, but always delicious home-made cakes.
There is another holiday that is loved by all children and adults. It’s the New Year. People decorate Christmas tree with toys and garlands, and believe that in this day miracle to happen. New Year’s Eve people go to dance to visit friends or stay at home and watch TV. This is my favorite holiday.

I like holidays very much and my favorite is Maslenitsa. I usually celebrate it with my parents, relatives and friends. Maslenitza is one of the most favorite holidays in our country. It lasts from Monday till Sunday. It comes either at the end of February or at the beginning of March, this is so-called movable festival. In 2002, Maslenitza took place in March (from 3d up to 9th). This holiday means the end of winter and the spring coming. It has pagan origin. During this holiday people visit each other, children play snowballs, light bonfires, enjoy horse-sledging. During these days people should avoid eating any kind of meat, but they are to eat much butter, cheese, sour cream, lots of pancakes. Lent follows Maslenitza, it is the strictest and long holiday, it lasts 7 weeks. During these weeks people avoid eating fat meals, meat and there are few entertainments. People must work hard, pray and clean their soul.

Russia – really unique country which along with advanced modern culture carefully keeps the traditions of the nation which are deeply originating not only in Orthodoxy, but even in paganism. Russians continue to celebrate pagan holidays, trust in numerous national signs and legends. The Christianity has presented to Russians such remarkable holidays as Easter, Christmas and an office of Baptism, and paganism – Maslenitsu and Ivana Kupalu. The most beloved Christmas entertainment – guessing. The aspiration of people to somehow expect the future and even magically to influence him has generated guessing. During a pagan time guessing had purely economic character – about a harvest yes a cattle issue, about health of the family. Brought on a Christmas-tide in a log hut a sheaf wheat or an armful of hay and teeth pulled out a straw yes a blade. The full ear was foretold by a good harvest, and a long blade – a good haymaking. Over the years interest in guessing was kept only by youth, especially girls. Long ago all is forgotten pagan yes magic that the ceremony included, and from fragments festive funs were born. The national legend speaks: "On the night of New year uncountable quantity of demons leave an underworld and walk up and down on the ground, frightening all baptized people. From her, at most dirty, it was also possible to vyznat the destiny". The last day of Maslenitsa – Forgiveness Sunday. This day apologize not only at live, but also to the dead. For the Christian Paskh – the main and solemn holiday of year, a holiday of the resurrection of Jesus Christ which has accepted martyrdom on a cross. Every spring Christians of the whole world celebrate to Paskh, Light Resurrection, the oldest and the most known of Christian church celebrations. The main easter ceremonies are known to all: dyeing of eggs, baking of Easter cakes. For the believing person Paskh it is connected also with the All-night vigil, religious procession and a hristosovaniye. Hristosovaniye consists in an exchange of kisses when pronouncing an easter greeting: "Christ has risen!" – "I have truly revived!" At Russia there are a lot of holidays and traditions which we have to honor!

One of them is, of course, New Year’s Day on the first of January. It is not so popular in England as in our country, but it is rather popular in Scotland. On that day people usually visit their friends and there is a lot of dancing and eating. In Scotland people bring a piece of coal for good luck in the New Year.
The next holiday of the year is St. Valentine’s Day. It is on the 14th of February. People buy or make Valentine cards and send them to the people they love.
In March there is Mother’s Day. All the children, little or adult ones, come to their mothers on that day to express their love and gratitude.
In April there is Easter. At Easter children eat chocolate Easter eggs. Sometimes parents hide them in the ho-use or in the garden and children have to look for them.
In June there is Father’s Day. On Father’s Day children give or send their fathers and grandfathers cards and presents.
On the 31st of October there is a Halloween. They say ghosts and witches come out on Halloween. People make lanterns out of pumpkins. Some people have Halloween parties and dress as witches and ghosts.
The 25th of December is Christmas Day. It is one of the people’s favorite holidays. People put Christmas trees in their houses and decorate them. There are beautiful Christmas decorations in the streets. On Christmas Eve everybody puts the presents under the Christmas tree. People say that at night Father Christmas puts presents into the stockings which children usually hang on their beds. The traditional Christmas meal is roast turkey and Christmas pudding

New industries have been developed in the last three decades. The main industrial centres are London, Birmingham, Manchester, Leeds, Liverpool, Glasgow and Bristol. The capital of the country is London. The United Kingdom is a parliamentary monarchy.

I guess people all over the world like holidays.

New year my most long-awaited holiday. Many love winter because of this holiday. All is decorated, everywhere sparks, houses in the middle of the room there is an elegant fir-tree. People in New year become kinder and happier. All are busy with preparations for a celebration. Children write letters to Father Frost and look forward to a holiday.
This winter holiday is pleasant to me most. Because all friends are glad, and we give gifts each other, and we go together to a fir-tree.
The most disturbing moment in New year is its arrival. It is good that to me already allow not to sleep to twelve this night. This year was so solemnly! On TV on a tower hours began to beat, all of us got up, wished each other a Happy New Year. And then cut big cake and ate on a piece. On the street it was very beautiful, all city roared with salutes, petards and fireworks. We went to the street and burned the Bengalese candles.
For the morning under a fir-tree gifts lay! Again Father Frost outwitted us and brought them when we already slept. But mother told that on that it and the wizard what is shown to nobody, and all other Frosts disguised. It is a pity after all that we didn’t see the real Father Frost. We will try another time!
