An apartment is a great accommodation option, whether you have just started a graduate job, moved to a big city, or just want to downsize your property. When making the decision of whether to live in an apartment or house it’s important to take into consideration all the pros and cons.
It may be that your lifestyle and situation point clearly to the best option in terms of a house or flat – if you have children or pets, a house tends to be better, but if you are a student then a flat would be better.
Sometimes the decision isn’t that easy though, so if you are still trying to work out which option is best consider these advantages of living in an apartment:
Location
If you don’t have a car then the location of your property could be crucial. If you are starting a new job or need to be in the city centre, then an apartment is likely to suit you better than a house.
It’s much easier for an apartment complex to afford to be in a desirable city location, whereas houses are much more expensive to build for a single homeowner. Living in a flat can be very beneficial if you want to walk to work, and is great if you want to experience a city’s nightlife just a short way from your home.
Amenities
Many people would love to have a home with a swimming pool, gym, and tennis court, but the reality is most wouldn’t be able to afford it. The great thing about an apartment complex, especially a big one, is that they often come with all these things.
Owners of large apartment complexes will often reinvest some of their rent money into creating these luxury amenities, in order to retain existing clients and attract new ones.
Security
When moving into a new property it is important to feel secure. One big advantage of living in a flat or apartment is the availability of several layers of added security, especially in a gated complex.
There is a usually a code to get into the building, CCTV cameras around the entrance, and apartments off the ground floor. Most houses just have an alarm and a lock on the front door.
Commitment
If you are just starting your career or moving to a new city, you may not know exactly where you want to live. The great thing about apartments is that you can usually get relatively short-term contracts.
Many landlords offer 6 month contracts, and once they are up you can sometimes ask to keep them rolling – this gives you the freedom to move out with just one month’s notice if you want to change location.
Costs
There are usually less costs involved when living in a flat. You don’t have to worry about the structure of the building, as the owner of the complex is responsible for that, and many other repairs are usually not up to you to pay for, especially if you are renting.
The rent of an apartment is usually cheaper than the mortgage in a house too, and if the square footage is smaller you will have cheaper living costs, such as gas, water, and electricity.

I live in the flat. It consists of a living-room, a bedroom, a kitchen and a bathroom. There are no luxury things in it but all the rooms look cosy and attractive. My bedroom isn’t large but it looks very nice because the curtains on the window match the wallpaper and furniture. There is a table, a computer, a mirror, a wardrobe. In the corner you can see a colour TV-set, in the opposite corner there is a sofa. All this makes the room cosy.

I live in a small cosy flat. There is a corridor, kitchen, bedroom, living room and bathroom.
In the corridor there is a big wardrobe with a few shelves for shoes and a rack for coats and jackets.
The living room is a bright room with a big window. In the corner there is a small work area with the computer. In the centre of the room, right opposite the TV set, there is a comfortable sofa.
The living room is adjacent to the kitchen. The kitchen is small but well-equipped. There is a stove, oven, fridge, microwave, electric kettle and cupboards with kitchenware.
The bedroom opens to a balcony. A big wardrobe is located along the wall. Between the window and the wardrobe there is a big double bed. On the opposite wall in front of the bed there is a small wall-mounted TV with satellite channels.
Я живу в небольшой уютной квартире. В ней есть коридор, кухня, спальня, гостиная и ванная комната.
В коридоре установлен большой шкаф с несколькими полками для обуви и вешалкой для курток и пальто.
Гостиная – очень светлая комната с большим окном. В углу находится небольшая рабочая зона с компьютером. В центре комнаты напротив телевизора стоит удобный диван.
Гостиная примыкает к кухне. Кухня – не большая по размеру, но хорошо оборудована. В ней есть плита, духовка, холодильник, микроволновая печь, электрический чайник и шкафы с кухонными принадлежностями.
В спальне есть выход на балкон. Вдоль стены стоит большой платяной шкаф. Между окном и шкафом стоит большая двуспальная кровать. Напротив нее на стене висит маленький телевизор со спутниковыми каналами.

I live with parents in the big new house on the seventh floor. We moved here recently, but already got used to the new room: it is much better former.
When you enter into the apartment, at once it appear in a big and spacious hall. Near one wall — a hanger and a case, near another — a pier glass. Nearby — a door in kitchen, and on the other hand, on the right, an entrance to our room and a bedroom of parents.
Nursery at us spacious and light, with an exit to a loggia. We manage in the nursery with the brother together. In our room there are two beds: mine and Mitin. The left corner is occupied by a wardrobe and a case for toys and books. We have a good library where the most interesting books are collected. Near a wall, on the right, cost a desk with book shelves and a bedside table for the tape recorder and the TV.
Behind a desk I do homework, I draw; frankly speaking, it not always looks tidily therefore mother sometimes becomes angry about me.
On book shelves there are textbooks and books from the Children’s Encyclopedia series which I like to leaf through from time to time. Among books is a little empty seat, there at me the beautiful stones found in mountains, a mountain sedge, leaves of different plants from the Nikitsky botanical garden lie. All this is accurately placed, and every morning, opening eyes, I see this beauty which reminds that the summer will soon return and we all family again will go to the tender sea.
In our room there are a lot of toys which I presented Meath, but it won’t get used in any way to that they need to be cleaned. Now you represent as my apartment looks. You come to us on a visit and you will see how at us it is pure and cozy.

I live in an apartment. It is not very big, but not small. I have my own bedroom. There I have is a comfortable king bed. Also there is a night table, lamp. We have a large bright kitchen. Her many modern cooking appliances. WC and bathroom as well equipped. Sometimes at night I go out and balcony to enjoy the fresh air. Very interesting to observe nature from the fifth floor. Everything seems completely different, unusual and fascinating. Very often I sit on the large sofa in the living room. There is always an atmosphere of peace and quiet.
