Personally, I think that online shopping is important nowadays, because it is easier for people to order things without going anywhere. I don’t order clothing items simply because I can’t try them on. But I do order books and stuff like that. That’s why I like this way of shopping, it’s timesaving.
One plus of online shopping is that you save time, I have mentioned it in the first paragraph. Another one is that if you order food for example you don’t have to go far away to get it. While you wait for an item you can do other important things you need to do. The minuses are that you don’t know the quality of an item, and, if we speak about clothing, whether it suits you. For example, you have your food chosen for you so you don’t know if it’s fresh or not.
I ordered a comic book some time ago. I clicked on a bookstore and searched for the one I wanted. Then I clicked ’buy now’ button and proceeded to the form where I had to fill in the address and my credit card number. Then it was done!

Shopping is a modern tendency as it is impossible to live in the contemporary world and not to visit shops. Despite the existence of markets, most of the population of every country nowadays prefers to purchase everything necessary in the shops. Even the residents of the smallest faraway villages at least once a month visit shops: they can’t live without products, household detergents, equipment, devices etc. Speaking about the citizens of rather big cities shops are an integral part of their life. They are located everywhere and each person spends a pretty penny there as there are so many temptations. I am not an exception and can admit that I am a real spender. I love shopping no matter what I buy and how much I spend. It is so pleasant to get an item, which you have been wishing to obtain for some time, and at last you receive it. But not every my purchase is a real bargain, so I always try to do my best in choosing the next goods. Being a mother of a small child and a wife I have to do my shopping at least once a week. The goods I buy are very diverse and are sold in different shops. Supermarkets, stalls and small local shops are usually visited by me in order to buy products of the week list. I choose the local butcher’s to get fresh meat, the greengrocer’s – to provide my family with fresh juicy fruit and vegetables, the baker’s – to taste fragrant bread and pastry and the corner shop to buy everything I have not included into my list, but need urgently. And now I realize that this marketing strategy works ideally as there has never been a situation when we left the shop only with cheap products. The assortment is so various that you can not pass by something tasty. While speaking about shopping I can’t but mention a very specific phenomenon of our life -advertising. We have to listen to ads and watch commercials at least hundred times a day. It penetrates to our minds and makes us wear some kind of clothes and shoes, it insists on our chewing all the time, cleaning our teeth with Colgate after we drink Coffee Nescafe.
I like shopping. I like to buy different things, especially presents. If I want to buy something special I visit the market with someone who will advise me and help me to buy it. I often do the shopping with my Mum because she has a good taste and knows what will fit me. Shopping can change my mood, especially if it is a bargain. I usually buy foodstuffs, it is my household duty. I usually buy bread, milk, eggs, cheese. Once a week my Mum buys meat and fish for a week. When it comes to buying some serious things such as clothing, home appliances, footwear we usually go shopping together. Shopping is a very interesting way to spend your time. It helps to get everything you want. It can make our dreams come true.

I can easily claim that the Russians are highly adventurous shoppers. Despite the fact that we prefer reliability and high-quality, we can easily buy even a faulty good provided we really like it. Nevertheless, shopping habits totally depend on a person’s income rate.
Shopping for clothes is the most exiting kind of shopping, so I’d like to start with it. Upper and upper-middle classes prefer brand name high quality designer clothes. I personally strongly doubt about the quality of such things but it’s absolutely obvious that they help to enhance the status of the owner. Wearing designer clothes with an embroidered logo isn’t regarded as naff in Russia, but it’s a clear indicator of a person’s social status. Moreover, they prefer making their purchases in department stores or shopping centers. However, middle and low classes prefer buying own-brand clothes or generics of the lower quality as they are significantly cheaper. Their favorite places to shop are market places as well as shopping centres.
Shopping for food is not so exiting, but it is vitally important for everyone. The majority of Russian people buy their produces in various supermarkets in spite of the fact that the prices there are twice or even three times as high as at market, but the range of goods is definitely bigger. Thus, there are a lot of market places in Russian towns and cities where you can find different food: fruit, vegetable, meet, cheese, poultry, ect. However, one should be careful when making a purchase there: not only might the product quality may be law, but also the shopper might be twisted round the finger! I should mention that there are practically no corner shops in Russia as the market was cornered by supermarket chains and it has became impossible for them to compete with ’trade giants’.
So, these are the main shopping habits in Russia. However, they have slightly changed under the influence of European and American lifestyle and all the social barriers are beginning to dilute.
