Teenagers protest over school uniform
Students at Trinity College in Royal Leamington Spa on October 10 boycotted their first lesson in protest over the introduction of a uniform. The students were surveyed and voted to retain the existing dress code allowing them to wear their everyday dress. The school governors, however, sent parents a letter informing them that a school uniform would be compulsory for the new school year in September. One of the protestors, a 15-year-old girl said, "They will destroy the wonderful atmosphere of our school. They will take away our individualism if this goes ahead." Another student said, "They are just ignoring the views of everybody: parents, students and staff. When they asked us last May whether we wanted uniforms, most people said no. Quite a few parents agree with this protest." Head teacher Catherine Fields said a lot of the clothing that the students were wearing was not suitable for school. She added that she did not believe that a uniform suppressed anyone’s individuality.

Television in our lives is common knowledge that television has become the most popular entertainment in our home life. Now fewer and fewer people go out in the evening, preferring to stay at home and enjoy themselves sitting in comfortable armchairs in front of TV-screens and watching either “live” TV or films on video. In Russia people can choose among lots of channels. Some of them are commercial: they are Discovery, Travel Channel or CNN in English. The others, such as Russia 1, belong to the federal government. A great number of central channels make their viewers watch advertisements, as the main part of the money they get, comes from advertising. So between and during programmes we have to watch advertisements for chewing-gum, soap, washing-machines, detergents and many other items we do not require at the moment. There is a special channel broadcasting lots of sports events such as championships, competitions, races, games and interviews with sportsmen and sportswomen. There are also several channels transmitting regional programmes and news and a channel “Culture”, composed of cultural programmes. As a rule, adults prefer to watch news. This is broadcast, shown at regular intervals at the main channels and both national and international current events are discussed at panel discussions. As for programmes for children, on Russian TV we have a special channel, called “Сarousel”, where educational programmes, animated cartoons and films are on all through the day. Needless to say, that a large part of TV time is occupied by serials which are shown by almost every channel and are often criticized for their poor quality. Of course, we can call some TV programmes really informative and entertaining. Among them there are “KVN”, “What? Where? When”, “Romanticism of Romance” and others. But at the same time a large part of TV shows and films produces a negative effect on spectators, especially on teenagers, who like to spend a lot of time in front TV. Scenes of violence and crime presented in thrillers, horror and detective films mostly of foreign production can inflict damage on a child’s mind, and we should never forget about it.

Общеизвестно, что телевидение стало самым популярным домашним развлечением. Сегодня все меньше и меньше людей выходит по вечерам, предпочитая оставаться дома и наслаждаться, сидя в удобных креслах перед телевизионными экранами, просмотром либо телепередач, либо фильмов на видео. В России люди могут выбирать среди множества каналов. Некоторые из них – коммерческие: это “Дискавери”, “Канал Путешествие” или Cи-эн-эн на английском языке. Другие, такие как Россия 1, принадлежать федеральному правительству. Большое число центральных телеканалов заставляет своих зрителей смотреть рекламные объявления, так как большая часть денег, которую они получают, поступает от рекламы. Таким образом, между и во время программ мы должны смотреть рекламные объявления, посвященные жевательной резинке, мылу, стиральным машинам, моющим средствам и многим другим предметам, которые нам в данный момент не нужны. Существует специальный телеканал, транслирующий многие спортивные события, такие как чемпионаты, соревнования, гонки, игры и интервью со спортсменами и спортсменками. Есть также несколько телеканалов, передающих региональные (областные) программы и новости, и канал “Культура”, состоящий из культурных телепередач. Как правило, взрослые предпочитают смотреть новости. Это телепередачи, которые регулярно (досл. Нет нужды говорить, что большая часть телевизионного времени принадлежит (досл. Занята) сериалами, которые показывают почти на каждом канале и часто критикуют за низкое качество. Несомненно, некоторые передачи мы можем назвать действительно информативными и развлекательными. Среди них: КВН, “Что? Где? Когда?”, “Романтика романса” и другие. Но в тоже время значительная часть телевизионных программ и фильмов оказывает негативное воздействие на зрителей, особенно на подростков, которые любят проводить много времени перед телевизором. Сцены жестокости и преступлений, показываемые в остросюжетных фильмах, фильмах ужасов и детективах, большей частью зарубежного производства, могут нанести вред детской душе, и нам не следует забывать об этом.

Throughout human history there have been made many significant inventions. These inventions have affected human society on all levels, such as science and technology. When it come to science it is inventions those that were made in medicine, which have helped to save many millions of lives. In technology it is computers and the Internet, which has connected us all in this modern digital world. Thanks to inventions society can develop and get more efficient at certain things. On the other hand, certain inventions can have their drawbacks, or even dangerous consequences - this is for example the invention of the atomic bomb, or other weapons of mass destruction. Because of this morals and proper use concerning inventions have been discussed in our society. If we wish to progress as a society without destroying ourselves in the process, then we must continue such discussion and make strict regulations regarding inventions. At the same time, we must encourage inventions and innovation. Without it we cannot move forward. 

Of course, my favorite invention is a computer.  I would like to say that the invention of the computer positively influenced to my life. I don’t feel lonely, because any time I have the opportunity to communicate with my friends even those who live far from me. I can watch my favorite movies and listen to my favorite music without leaving home. It is especially great to use this invention when you are sick and you have to stay at home and lie in your bed/
  But laptop is the best! My laptop is black, it is a standard size with a large screen and great power. I cannot imagine my life without it. It is everything for me: my friends, my songs, my movies, my Internet, my Facebook, my homework on any subject.
A few years ago I had a computer, it was great too, but laptop is better than computer. I can move it to any room and chat with my friends without meddling, even in the kitchen. I can take it with me when I go to my friends.  I love my laptop.

In 1854 the German inventor Heinrich Gebel developed the first "modern" lamp: the charred bamboo thread in the vacuumized vessel. In the next 5 years he developed that many call the first practical lamp. On July 11, 1874 the Russian engineer Alexander Nikolaevich Lodygin took out the patent behind number 1619 on a nitevy lamp. As the filament it used the coal core placed in the vacuumized vessel. The English inventor Joseph Wilson Svan took out in 1878 the British patent for a lamp with coal fiber. In its lamps fiber was in the rarefied oxygen atmosphere that allowed to receive very bright light. In the second half of the 1870th years the American inventor Thomas Edison carries out research work in which he tries various metals as a thread. In 1879 it patents a lamp with a platinum thread. In 1880 it comes back to coal fiber and creates a lamp with time of life of 40 hours. At the same time Edison invented a cartridge, a socle and the switch. Despite so short time of life of its lamp force out gas lighting used until then. In the 1890th years Lodygin invents some types of lamps with metallic threads of heat. In 1906 Lodygin sells the patent for a tungsten thread of the General Electric company. Because of the high cost of tungsten the patent finds only limited application. In 1910 William David Coolidge invents the improved method of production of a tungsten thread. Subsequently the tungsten thread forces out all other types of threads. The remaining problem in vacuum was solved with fast evaporation of a thread by the American scientist Irving Lengmyur who, working since 1909 in General Electric firm, thought up to fill flasks of lamps with inert gas that significantly increased time of life of lamps.

Television (1920s)
The invention that swept the world and changed leisure habits for countless millions was pioneered by Scottish-born electrical engineer John Logie Baird. It had been realised for some time that light could be converted into electrical impulses, making it possible to transmit such impulses over a distance and then reconvert them into light.
Motor Car (Late 19th Century)
With television, the car is probably the most widely used and most useful of all leisure-inspired inventions. German engineer Karl Benz produced the first petroldriven car in 1885 and the British motor industry started in 1896. Henry Ford was the first to use assembly line production for his Model Т car in 1908. Like them or hate them, cars have given people great freedom of travel.
Electricity
The name came from the Greek word for amber and was coined by Elizabeth I’s physician William Gilbert who was among those who noticed that amber had the power to attract light objects after being rubbed. In the 19th century such great names as Michael Faraday, Humphry Davy, Alessandro Volta and Andre Marie Ampere all did vital work on electricity.
Photography (Early 19th Century)
Leonardo da Vinci had described the camera obscura photographic principle as early as 1515. But it was not until 1835 that Frenchman Louis Daguerre produced camera photography. The system was gradually refined over the years, to the joy of happy snappers and the despair of those who had to wade through friends’ endless holiday pictures.
Telephone (1876)
Edinburgh-born scientist Alexander Graham Bell patented his invention of the telephone in 1876. The following year, the great American inventor Thomas Edison produced the first working telephone. With telephones soon becoming rapidly available, the days of letter-writing became numbered.
Computer (20th Century)
The computer has been another life-transforming invention. British mathematician Charles Babbage designed a form of computer in the mid-1830s, but it was not until more than a century later that theory was put into practice. Now, a whole generation has grown up with calculators, windows, icons, computer games and word processors, and the Internet and e-mail have transformed communication and information.
Aeroplane
The plane was the invention that helped shrink the world and brought distant lands within easy reach of ordinary people. The invention of the petrol engine made flight feasible and the American Wright brothers made the first flight in 1903.

Изобретение? Хм.  My favorite invention of TV. With it, we can see the different news, events. Also it is entertainment, for example channel "STS", "TNT", it is quite entertaining channels. A channels such as "Channel", "Russia 1", "NTV", it is rather more channels that we describe different events, news. Well, there is a channel for sports "Sport." The first electric light bulb (like modern) invented Pavel N. Yablochkov, who all his life he worked as electrician. But the thought of it not only the bulb, and the first electric candle! With the aid of the candle Yablochkov were first illuminate the streets of the city. The candle had a value of 20 kopecks and the burned a lamp and a half hours. After that it was necessary to change the yard to the other. Later were invented lights with automatic substitution of the candle.
Candles Yablochkov were very inconvenient compared with electric lights, since they were short-lived and shone variable luminous flux. For something like this invention makes it possible to use light bulbs to the masses, to light lit up the streets artificial light in the dark. So lighting devices were used extensively as in the marketplaces, and in the cities, theaters, and even in the shopping centers.
Since 1840 in 1870 year tens of inventors from all over the world tried to create the perfect light bulb, which would have burned constantly. But all of them went bad. However, in 1872-1873 years of luck still turns to the scientists of the face, namely the Russian engineer-inventor Лодыгину Alexander Nikolayevich. Лодыгин became the pioneer of the modern, electric ламочки. Before this, in the world’s never been invented. The lamp has passed all the tests. The lamp can burn up to half an hour. Later on it started to pump the air, which enabled it burn for much longer.
On the streets of Saint Petersburg the first 2 lamp Лодыгина caught fire in 1873.
However, American scientist and inventor Thomas Edison knew about the experiments, which were carried out by Лодыгин and not sitting on his hands. And in 1879 he began to apply the coal thread, made from solid beech hair. To achieve the desired result, he studied a huge number of species of bamboo, and after 6 000 attempts with the coal threads, he found what he was looking for. Thanks to his numerous experiments Edison able to accomplish what it bulbs burned hundreds of hours. But in this achievement Edison was not the first.
In 1878, the English scientist-inventor Joseph Swan invented by one electric bulb which had the form of a glass flask, inside of which there was a coal thread. Later Edison and Swan merged to create your company on the production of the first electric incandescent bulbs Edison & Swan United Electric Light Company.
A seemingly insignificant opening of brilliant scientists changed the world radically and gave a big impetus to the technological development of mankind.

Хотелось бы какую-нибудь такую штуку, чтобы продливать день - увеличитвать кол-во часов в сутках.  А если изобрести одежду, меняющую цвет по твоему желанию? Лекарство от всех болейзней тоже неплохо (ну или хотя бы для 100%-го зрения).
