My Christmas. My most favorite holiday is Christmas. On this holiday, we dress up a Christmas tree, give each other gifts, eat deliciously. This Christmas spirit, snow under the window, flashlights, garlands, songs. It’s so soothing and inspiring. I like this holiday and we celebrate it.

When guests and friends come to us, we have got a holiday.

Every country has its own customs and traditions. English people are proud of their traditions and they keep them up. It is difficult to speak about England without speaking about its holidays. Christmas Day is among them.
All English people celebrate Christmas (or X-mas) on the 25th of December. What kind of holiday is it? It is the yearly celebration of the birth of Jesus Christ. It falls on December 25 by the Catholic Church and on the 7th of January by the Orthodox Church. This holiday means the beginning of the new year and the new life.
English people celebrate this holiday with the evergreen tree - Christmas tree. Children rut along sock, called a Christmas stocking at the end of their beds and Santa Claus conies down the chimney to bring them presents.
Christmas Day is the greatest holiday in England. It is interesting to visit the shops before this holiday. There are a lot of nice Christmas cards and presents there. English people like this holiday very much and prepare for it beforehand. They buy presents for each other, try to send Christmas cards for their relatives and friends.
It is interesting to visit London during this holiday. There is a Christmas tree in Trafalgar Square. We can see many lights, toys and sweets all over this tree. Everywhere you can see slogans "A Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year".

Holiday/Christmas Shopping for Food
To begin my story about Christmas shopping I would like to say that there are a lot of pleasant things we connect with the idea of Christmas holidays. Shopping is the most favorable of all. Going shopping before Christmas is an exciting and a spectacular thing to do.
A lot of toys, gifts, downy and beautiful Christmas trees are sold in shops. Toys seem to lie on the racks and scream: Buy me! Buy me! Of course you buy them, because you know that they are good presents both for children and adults. Many people like to go shopping before Holiday or Christmas day as well as me, because first of all it is a pleasure and a good pastime. All shops choke up with gifts, food and people who buy up all this stuff. Huge queues fill the shops. Cashiers do not have time to count the goods, shop assistants do not have time to fill again the empty racks. People buy up everything they see on their way. Checkout counters are filled up with money; people leave shops with great bags of food and presents feeling great pleasure from shopping. Shops are decorated with Christmas stuff and shop assistants are also dressed in Christmas clothes. Also shops give holiday discounts on food and gifts.
Traditionally holidays and Christmas are especially associated with good food in people’s minds. Before a holiday shopping centers, food markets are crowded with people hunting for all kinds of products like meat products, vegetables, fruit, dairy food, sweets, sea products, beverages, etc. Everybody wants to cook something special for his family and guests and treat them delicious dishes at festive table. In different countries people have different kinds of holiday cuisine. To cook what you would like you need to buy everything beforehand and not to forget anything. Of course it takes a lot of time and effort but it is worth it. Different people have different food preferences in cooking for Christmas. Russian people prefer to have a big table with a lot of various dishes. They enjoy eating a duck or a goose stuffed with apples. The Spaniards prefer to eat fried lamb or pork. Frenchmen like to eat a turkey in white wine on Christmas day. The Italian people prefer to eat cod or bass with wine. Everybody has his preferences in the choice of food.
As for me I like to go shopping in general, as it is. I enjoy doing the shopping. I go shopping not only on weekends but also on weekdays. And I certainly like to go shopping before Christmas Day or before any holiday, like millions of other people in our country. Myfamily stock up food in big shops, like Super Good supermarket. We can buy a lot of different kinds of products at a time there. Those kinds of shopping places offer the buyers a big variety of foodstuff and people do not need to go from one shop to another searching for what they need. We buy all we want and leave the shop with bags full of food. My mother spends a very long time on shopping and choosing products. If we forget something we can buy it in a small shop near our apartment building. I like to buy food, I like to choose and ask shop assistants for advice.

I love this Holiday. When I was a little girl, I believe at Santa Claus. I always wote letters to Santa Claus. Now, I don't believe at Santa Claus, but I love this holiday.
On the Eve of the Christmas children hang their stockings, so that Santa Claus could put presents into them.
Santa Claus was a person whose name was St. Nicolas, who always gave presents to poor children. After he died, the Germans brought this legend to America. Soon, St. Nicolas became Santa Claus.
Carol singing is a traditional part of Christmas. In the evening children come to the door of a house and sing for a person who lives in this house. Then he or she gives children nuts and candies. If I live in Great Britain, I will sing that songs too.
So, Christmas is a lovely holiday for all the people in Great Britain. I love this wonderful holiday. Christmas is my lovely holiday in the world. I think that people in our world love this fantasticholiday too.

2. Thanksgiving Day is one of the most favorite holidays in the United States. Every fourth Thursday of October American people celebrate this holiday. They usually stay at home and have a big family dinner. This day has a very important meaning in the history America. The first Thanksgiving was celebrated by pilgrims in autumn of 1621. They were European travelers who sailed on “Mayflower” ship and tried to find the New World. Before their arrival to America the country was inhabited by Native American Indians. However, when they settled here, life was quite difficult. There was nothing to eat and nowhere to live. First winter was especially difficult and many people couldn’t survive without fresh food. In spring Native Indians taught pilgrims how to survive in America. They now could hunt, fish and grow plants. In the autumn of 1621 they had a wonderful harvest. To celebrate this occasion pilgrims decided to have a Thanksgiving feast. It meant that they were very thankful for their food. During this holiday the tables were full of fresh food: corn, beans, turkey, venison, pumpkin. Their Indian friends were also invited to share the feast. Nowadays Americans continue celebrating this holiday and the main dish is still turkey. The most popular dessert is a pumpkin pie. People in Canada also celebrate Thanksgiving but it falls on every second Thursday of October.
3. On July 4 the Americans celebrate their national holiday — Independence Day. The United States gained independence as a result of gradual and painful process.
By the mid 1700’s, it became difficult for thirteen British colonies in the New World to be ruled by a king 3000 miles across the ocean. The British empire imposed high taxes upon the colonies.
In 1774, the First Continental Congress drew up a list of grievances against the British crown. This document was the first draft of the document that would formally separate colonies from England.
In 1775, the Revolutionary War began. On July 2, 1776, the Second Continental Congress presented a second draft of the list of grievances. On July 4, the Continental Congress approved the Declaration of independence. But the War of independence lasted until 1783. After the war Independence Day became an official holiday.
On July 4, Americans have holiday from work. People have day-long picnics with favorite foods like hot dogs, ham-burgers, potato salad, baked beans. Lively music is heard everywhere. People play baseball or compete at three-legged races or pie-eating or water-melon-eating contests.
Some cities have parades with people dressed as the original founding fathers who march to the music of high school bands. In the evening people gather to watch firework displays.
Wherever Americans are around the globe they will get together to celebrate Independence Day.
4. Christmas is one of the most important holidays in Christianity. A lot of people consider that Jesus Christ was born on this day many years ago. It’s a sacred festival that’s why orthodox believers gather in the churches to attend the feast rite on Christmas. My whole family celebrates this feast: mother, father, my younger sister and I. My grandmother and grandfather very seldom visit us. We sit down to the festive table and light the candles at midnight. Everybody is always in a good mood. After the feast a week comes when we can tell fortunes. Every year my friends and I look in the mirror for our intended at night but we understand that it’s impossible to see our fate in a mirror. But anyway we believe that enchantment will happen.But in other countries Christmas is celebrated in a different way. For example in the USA Christmas day is celebrated on December 25. I like this feast very much because it inspires people with belief in the reality of miracles. Birth of Jesus Christ is the most important miracle for believers. This feast goes back to the earliest of times and it will never be forgotten.

Я считаю, что Рождество Христово-это семейный праздник, потому что я привык праздновать его с родителями, родственниками, бабушкой и дедушкой.
Приготовления к Рождеству у меня дома всегда начинаются утром. Мама занимается приготовлением разнообразных, вкусных блюд, и обязательно готовит кутью с орехами и изюмом в сладком узваре. Когда немного темнеет, я беру немного кутьи и иду в гости к своей Крестной мамы, угощаю ее кутьей и выражаю ее свое уважение, как второй матери. В ответ, она угощает меня разными вкусностями, конфетами и дарит подарок.
Потом мы идем с друзьями колядовать, предварительно изучив несколько колядок. Мы заходим к наших знакомых или знакомых родителей. И поем, чтобы они радовались рождению Иисуса Христа. За это, нас угощают конфетами и дают деньги. Но конфеты сразу никто не ест, потому что это нужно делать дома за праздничным столом. Несколько раз, мы даже колядовали настоящим вертепом, переодевались в костюмы рождественских персонажей.
Под вечер вся наша большая семья собирается за новогодним, праздничным столом. На столе всегда много мясных блюд, салатов, и главное блюдо вечера - кутья. Мы едим кутью, вспоминаем умерших родственников, а потом мама оставляет им кутью на стол и зажигает свечу. После ужина мы дарим друг другу разные подарки, поздравляем всех с Рождеством - это моя самая любимая часть празднования.
Потом еще долго сидим возле камина, пьем чай и разговариваем, бабушка рассказывает интересные истории и случаи, дедушка с мамой поют разные песни. Вот так весело проходит празднование Рождества в моей семье.
