My favorite book is "The adventures of Sherlock Holmes".  The book was  written by Arthur Conan Doyle,  the famous writer from Scotland in 1891. The book about the famous detective is popular all over the world.  Sherlock Holmes and his friend Doctor Watson investigate different crimes in London of the 19th century.  Sherlock Holmes uses his famous method of deduction to solve these crimes.  He looks for stolen jewels, finds missing people and points to the murderers.  The stories are exceptionally interesting and exciting.  Many of them were made into  films.

Летом в мои руки попала книга. Конан Дойля о знаменитом сыщике Шерлоке Холмсе. У нас дома очень любят фильмы, поставленные по произведениям Конан Дойля. Некоторые из его рассказов были мне известны. Но некоторые я еще не читала. Среди них и рассказ «Шесть Наполеонов», о котором я хочу рассказать.  Шерлок Холмс — знаменитый сыщик, придуманный английским писателем. Его приметы знают все: трубка, скрипка и умение распутывать самые сложные преступления, даже не выходя из комнаты. Другом и постоянным помощником Холмса является доктор Ватсон.  Он не такой умный, как Холмс, но добрый и смелый. В других рассказах говорится, что Ватсон когда-то был военным врачом, но из-за ранения ушел из армии.  В рассказах о Холмсе и Ватсоне есть еще один персонаж, который постоянно появляется у Конан Дойля. Это профессиональный следователь лондонской полиции Скотланд-Ярда Лестрейд. Лестрейд очень уважает Холмса и постоянно обращается к нему за помощью в сложных случаях. Так и в рассказе «Шесть Наполеонов» именно Лестрейд рассказал Холмсу о странных событиях, которые произошли в Лондоне.  Оказывается, в Лондоне появился сумасшедший, который разыскивает и разбивает на куски небольшие статуи французского императора  Наполеона. Ради этого сумасшедший идет даже на грабеж и убийство.  И тут начинается самое интересное, то, из-за чего я люблю рассказы Конан Дойля,  Шерлок Холмс начинает свое расследование.  Он рассудил, что, если грабитель и убийца разыскивает дешевые гипсовые скульптурки, то они для него очень важны. Может быть, внутри них что-то спрятано? Конан Дойль пишет свои рассказы так, что читатели могут следить за расследованием и сами принимают в нем участие. Это интереснее, чем кроссворды и головоломки, потому что всегда здорово принять участие в расследовании преступления, даже если ты просто читаешь книжку. Шерлок Холмс расследовал, кто, где и когда сделал скульптуры Наполеона, кому они были проданы. И сделал вывод: если из шести четыре уже разбиты, то в следующий раз преступника можно поймать рядом с пятым Наполеоном. Засада, в которой участвовали Ватсон и Лестрейд, помогла поймать преступника. Это был молодой итальянец, который сам когда-то делал из гипса эти фигурки.  Лестрейд был рад: ведь преступник-убийца найден. Но Шерлок Холмс довел дело до конца. Он выяснил, что преступник имел отношение к краже драгоценной жемчужины, которая произошла несколько лет назад в Лондоне. И единственное место, где он мог спрятать ее, — это в мягких гипсовых фигурках, которые он делал. Холмс понял, что украденная жемчужина должна быть спрятана в последнем «Наполеоне». Он купил эту фигурку у ее хозяина и нашел драгоценность.  Всегда, когда я читаю рассказы о Шерлоке Холм се, мне интересно следить за тем, как он думает, задает вопросы и находит ответы.  Всегда он побеждает в борьбе с преступниками. Он — мой любимый литературный герой, потому что он все доделывает до конца, очень умный и очень много знает.  

Detective stories are the most popular type of stories in the world. But who is the most famous fictional detective? Without a doubt Sherlock Holmes.
The hero of the stories is a privet detective called Sherlock Holmes, who lives at 221b Baker street in London. He is tall and thin, with long, sharp face. He usually wears a deerstalker hat, smokes a pipe, and carries a magnifying glass. He is an extremely intelligent man and brilliant violinist. However, he has a dark side to his character, he is lonely and rather sad man. Holmes lives with his assistant and only friend Dr. Watson. Watson describe him in one of the stories as ’a brain without a heart’ and ’more a machine than a man’.

On glancing over my notes of the seventy odd cases in which I have during the last eight years studied the methods of my friend Sherlock Holmes, I find many tragic, some comic, a large number merely strange, but none commonplace; for, working as he did rather for the love of his art than for the acquirement of wealth, he refused to associate himself with any investigation which did not tend towards the unusual, and even the fantastic. Of all these varied cases, however,
It was early in April in the year ’83 that I woke one morning to find Sherlock Holmes standing, fully dressed, by the side of my bed. He was a late riser, as a rule, and as the clock on the mantelpiece showed me that it was only a quarter-past seven, I blinked up at him in some surprise, and perhaps just a little resentment, for I was myself regular in my habits.
“Very sorry to knock you up, Watson,” said he, “but it’s the common lot this morning. Mrs. Hudson has been knocked up, she retorted upon me, and I on you.”
“What is it, then—a fire?”
“No; a client. It seems that a young lady has arrived in a considerable state of excitement, who insists upon seeing me. She is waiting now in the sitting-room. Now, when young ladies wander about the metropolis at this hour of the morning, and knock sleepy people up out of their beds, I presume that it is something very pressing which they have to communicate. Should it prove to be an interesting case, you would, I am sure, wish to follow it from the outset. I thought, at any rate, that I should call you and give you the chance.”

The events in question occurred in the early days of my association with Holmes, when we were sharing rooms as bachelors in Baker Street. It is possible that I might have placed them upon record before, but a promise of secrecy was made at the time, from which I have only been freed during the last month by the untimely death of the lady to whom the pledge was given. It is perhaps as well that the facts should now come to light, for I have reasons to know that there are widespread rumours as to the death of Dr. Grimesby Roylott which tend to make the matter even more terrible than the truth.

Two years ago my favorite book was « The Adventures of Sherlock Holmes» by a well-known great writer Sir Arthur Conan Doyle. These detective stories were written in 1891 and were firstly published in 1892. They tell us about adventures of a very clever, brave and inimitable detective Sherlock Holmes and his best and true friend doctor John Watson. It is very interesting that Holmes is a person, who really existed. Professor of Edinburgh University mr. Joseph Bell was his prototype. Once Conan Doyle wanted to kill his character, but his fans didn't like this idea at all, so he wrote more stories about Sherlock Holmes. In my opinion public loved these detective stories because Holmes differed from other detectives, combination of absolutely different qualities made him very timely. I suppose that everyone should read this book, because it is very original, interesting, amusing and exciting. For me it was very easy to read this wonderful book too.          

В детстве мне очень нравилось, когда мама мне читала о волшебстве, всяких чародеях, феях и волшебных вещах. И поэтому моя любимая книжка — это «Волшебник Изумрудного города». Ее написал Александр Волков.  
Мне нравились книги о Волшебной стране за выдумку, с которой они написаны. В них оживают даже неживые предметы. Железный Дровосек ходит и говорит, деревянные солдаты идут на войну. Даже чучело Страшила, набитое соломой, оказывается очень умным и изобретательным. Летучие Обезьяны слушаются владельца Золотой Шапки, а королева мышей является на звук волшебного свистка.  
Будучи взрослым я не перестаю любить эту книгу. Иногда мне даже хочется попасть в эту Волшебную страну, потому что она кажется мне настоящей.  
As a child, I loved when my mother read to me about magic, all sorts of sorcerers, fairies and magical things. And so my favorite book - is "The Wizard of Oz." It was written by Alexander Volkov. I liked books about Oz for fiction with which they are written. They even inanimate objects come to life. The Tin Man walks and talks, wooden soldiers marching off to war. Even the scarecrow Scarecrow, stuffed with straw, is very smart and izobretatelnym. Letuchie Monkeys obey the Gold Caps, and the queen is the sound of mice magic whistle. As an adult I can not stop loving this knigu. Inogda I even want to get into this magical land, because it seems to me this.
