Halloween

Halloween is a festival that takes place on October 31. In the United States children wear costumes and masks and go trick-or-treating. Many of them carve jack-o’-lantens out of pumpkins. Fortunetelling and storytelling about ghosts and witches are popular activities.

Halloween developed from new year festivals and festivals of the dead. Christian church established a festival on November 1 called All Saints’ Day so that people could continue to celebrate their festivals.

The Mass said on All Saints’ Day was called Allhallowmass. The day before All Saints’ Day was known all hallows’ Eve or All Hallow e’en.

The main Halloween activity for children is trick-or-treating. Children dress in costumes and masks and go from door to door saying "trick or treat". The neighbours give children such treats as candy, fruit and pennies so that children do not play tricks on them.

Jack-o’-lanterns are hallowed-out pumpkins with face carved into one side. Most jack-o’-lanterns contain a candle inside. An Irish legend says that jack-o’-lanterns are named after the man called Jack.

He could not enter heaven because he was a miser, and he could not enter hell because he had played jokes on devil. As a result, Jack has to walk on the earth with his lantern until Judgment Day.

Fortunetelling is an important part of Halloween. For example, a coin, a ring, and a thimble were baked into a cake. It was believed that the person who found the coin would become wealthy. The one who found the ring would marry soon. And the person who found the thimble would never get married. Today people practice cardreading or palmistry.

People once believed that there were many ghosts and witches on the Earth and that they met on October 31 to worship the devil. Today, people do not believe in ghosts and witches but they like to tell stories about them on Halloween.

Месса, которую служили в День всех святых, называлась "Оллхэллоумэс". День перед Днем всех святых назывался кануном Дня всех святых или "Олл хэллоуин".

Главное развлечение детей на Хэллоуин — это выпрашивание сладостей. Дети переодеваются в маскарадные костюмы и маски, ходят от дома к дому и говорят: "Угощайте, а не то подшутим". Соседи дают детям такие угощения, как конфеты, фрукты, и мелочь, чтобы дети не сыграли с ними злую шутку.

Фонари на Хэллоуин — это пустые внутри тыквы с вырезанным с одной стороны лицом. В большинстве фонарей внутри находится свеча. В ирландской легенде говорится, что фонари на Хэллоуин (по-английски jack-o’-lanterns) названы так в честь человека по имени Джек.

My favorite holiday in Russia is New Year.  This holiday celebrated 31th december. On this holiday it is accepted to put a fir-tree in the house and to decorate it. Besides it is accepted to give each other presents. Symbols of new year in Russia is Father Frost with the Snow Maiden. In Russia began tradition before each New year on TV to show a set of "New Year’s movies", for example: Gentlemen of good luck, Diamond hand, Twist Of Fate or Happy Bathing! Also in our country before approach of new year the New Year’s address of the president who sums up year is on TV broadcast and wishes citizens of good luck in new year. I likes New Year and every year wait this holiday!

My summer vacation can be spoiled by the allergy to plants. Also, the reason may be a quarrel with a best friend or parents. My vacation can be spoiled by a lot of housework.

There are many things that can go wrong and spoil your summer holidays. For example, you can fall ill all of a sudden and spend your holidays in bed. The weather in our country is notoriously unpredictable. A spell of bad weather can ruin your holidays. No one wants to spend their holidays indoors looking out of the window at the falling rain. Problems at school can also be very unpleasant; if you fall behind with your studies you will have to catch up with the rest of the students. Naturally, it means a lot of reading and thinking. You will also be very anxious to do well and this anxiety may well lead to depression.

To be a real friend means to be able to share all happiness and hardships, be able to help and understand. But sometimes it is hard to find the one who is modest, faithful, reliable and sincere a same time. As for me i have a few true friends and i'd like to tell about 1 of them. His face is round/oval. He has a fair/dark complexion. His hair is black/fair/blond. Ну примерно так можно описать внешность. И я думаю уместно предложение про то как проводит время. Например He spends a lot of time. И занятие (тебе лучше знать своего друга). Про то что вы делаете вместе- We often go o the cinema. We like to walk. I often stay at her/his home for night and we like to see terrible films. Another interesting thing are parties. We dance, play party games, eat tasty food.
