New year is my favorite holiday. I remember how I celebrated this holiday three years ago. I decorated the New Year tree myself. I prepared special gifts for my sister, my parents and my close friend Alex.
The 31-st of December was a special  day at least for me because it was the last day of the year/ And the snow covered the roads, the roofs and the trees. Everything was white. It created very special misterious atmosphere.  And the colorful lights were in the starry sky. I  went out and played with snow balls with other children. At 10 my mother called me home.  She baked a cake with the vanilla cream and I helped her to lay the holiday  table.

My family has got many interesting traditional celebrations on the New Year’s day. For example we all in our family decorate our house and the New Year tree. Grown-ups and the children dress up and wear masks and costumes.
On December,31 we make presents ready for our relatives and friends. Usually we give sweets or souvenirs as presents. Until 5:00 p. m we cook New Year supper.( The traditional New Year dish is chicken grilled with potatoes.). Then I go to my friend’s place and come home at 9:00 p. m. Until 12:00 p. m we celebrate at home and give presents. Then we go to a "snow city "(The "snow city" is a little town made of ice. There is a New Year tree, icy attractions, a skating rink in the snow town. We have fun, go skating and tobogganing) and then we all go to our friend’s place.
New Year is the most popular celebration in Russia. And I think New Year celebration with my family is great!

Very soon, whole our country is going to celebrate the New Year. Every child waiting for that day impatiently. The most exciting reason is one, you can get amazing presents from family and friends. This year, I woukd like to get new CD player and PC game about super heroes. I know, that my friend Dima wants to get this PC game too. If our parents bought this game for us, we would be extremely happy because it’s new opportunity to play online in a team. I am really looking forward to this day.

In Scotland the New Year celebrations are known as Hogmanay. Hogmanay is the Scot’s word for the last day of the year, 31st December and the partying can last right through to January 2nd, which is a Bank Holiday in Scotland. Hogmanay has its origins in pagan times, an ancient time when the people would hold festivals for the sun and fire in the middle of the winter, to help them go through the cold hard times and to encourage the warmth and the longer days to return in the spring. Up until the 1960’s, Hogmanay was a more important festival in Scotland than Christmas. On the day of Hogmanay, 31st December, traditionally the house would be cleaned throughout so that the New Year would be welcomed into a pristine, tidy home. It is regarded as very bad luck to welcome the New Year into a dirty and untidy house!

A feature of New Year celebrations in Ireland is that greeted him in the town square and all the inhabitants of the village. Glad congratulate each other and give as gifts small gifts even strangers. Особенностью празднования Нового года в Ирландии является то, что встречают его на главной площади города или селения все жители. Радостно поздравляют друг друга и одаривают мелкими подарками даже незнакомых людей. Зажигательные танцы, уличные концерты, многоголосые ярмарки, всеобщее веселье. В новогоднюю ночь любой прохожий может зайти в дом с открытой дверью и станет там самым желанным гостем.
После шумного веселья на улицах и площадях ирландцы расходятся по домам и продолжают празднество в кругу семьи за богато накрытым столом, что, по давним поверьям, должно укрепить семейные узы и принести в дом достаток. Непременным угощением в каждом доме является печенье или кекс с тмином – сид-кейк, которым принято одаривать не только родных и близких, но и всех соседей и даже просто прохожих.
Традиции и обычаи этого края передаются из поколения в поколение. Поэтому дети с самого раннего возраста не только видят, как встречают Новый год в Ирландии сейчас, но и отлично знают, какое значение этому празднику придавали их предки. Например, юным ирландкам волшебная новогодняя ночь открывала секрет будущей семейной жизни: положив под подушку разные травы, девушка должна была увидеть во сне суженого. И сегодня в ночь перед Новым годом девочки кладут под подушку заветный пучок лаванды и омелы, надеясь разгадать, с кем свяжет их судьба.

Больше всех мне понравился павлин. У него очень красивый и пышный хвост.   Мне также понравился  тигр. Он подпрыгивал вверх и играл игрушками.

Then we went St. Petersburg to visit my uncle and my aunt. We all together went to the zoo. There were a lot of different animals: camels, tigers, bears, a lama, wolves, flamingos and many others. Most of all I liked the peacock. He has a very beautiful and lush tail. I also liked the tiger. He jumped up and played with his toys.

With approach of New Year 2014 people start to reflect, where and how to spend New Year that the holiday has turned out unusual and unforgettable which it would be possible to recollect with pleasure the whole year. For men of means fashionable and interesting it is considered celebrating of New Year abroad.

Especially interestingly also it is useful to spend New Year in England. Though it, of course, will be not absolutely New Year in the Russian understanding. Thus Englishmen expel all negative the energy, accumulated for the last year, and start light, positive with arrival of New Year. In England still the great value is given to such custom, as «the first person in new year».
