London draws people from all over the world. Some come on business, some come to study, to work or on holiday. London is naturally a very English city and it is very cosmopolitan, containing goods, food and entertainment, as well as people, from many countries of the world.
London spreads its influence over much of the southern areas of England; it gives work to millions of people who live not only in the inner city areas but in surrounding districts.
There is much in London which fascinates visitors and inspires the affection of Londoners: the splendor of the royal palaces and the Houses of Parliament, the dignity of St. Paul’s Cathedral and many monuments and beautiful parks.
London shows examples of buildings that express all the different areas of its history.
Buckingham Palace is the official London residence of the Sovereign. The daily ceremony of the Changing of the Guards takes place in its courtyard. The palace was built in 1703 by the Duke of Buckingham.

London is the capital of Great Britain, its
political, economic and cultural centre. It’s one of
the largest cities in the world. Its population is
more than million people. London is situated on
the river Thames. The city is very old and
beautiful. It was founded more than two
thousand years ago. Traditionally London is
divided into several parts: the City, the West End,
the East End and Westminster. The City is the
oldest part of London, its financial and business
centre. The heart of the City is the Stock
Exchange. Westminster is the most important
part of the capital. It’s the administrative centre.
The Houses of Parliament, the seat of the British
Government, are there. It’s a very beautiful
building with two towers and a very big clock
called Big Ben. Big Ben is really the bell which
strikes every quarter of an hour. Opposite the
Houses of Parliament is Westminster Abbey. It’s
a very beautiful church built over 900 years ago.
The tombs of many great statesmen, scientists
and writers are there.
To the west of Westminster is West End.
Here we find most of the big shops, hotels,
museums, art galleries, theatres and concert
halls. Picadilly Circus is the heart of London’s
West End. In the West End there are wide streets
with beautiful houses and many parks, gardens
and squares. To the east of Westminster is the
East End, an industrial district of the capital. There
are no parks or gardens in the East End and you
can’t see many fine houses there. Most of the
plants and factories are situated there. London
has many places of interest. One of them is
Buckingham Palace. It’s the residence of the
Queen. The English are proud of Trafalgar
Square, which was named so in memory of the
victory at the battle. There in 1805 the English fleet
defeated the fleet of France and Spain. The last
place of interest I should like to mention, is the
British Museum, the biggest museum in London.
The museum is famous for its library -one of the
richest in the world.
All London’s long-past history is told by its
streets. There are many streets in London which
are known all over the" world. Among them
Oxford Street, Downing Street and a lot of others
can be mentioned. And tourists are usually
attracted not only by the places of interest but by
the streets too. In conclusion I should say if you
are lucky enough to find yourself in London
some day you will have a lot to see and enjoy

London is a large city situated in the southeastern part of England, standing on the river Thames. This city is a capital of the United Kingdom. The population of London is more than eight million people. London is considered as the largest city not only of the United Kingdom but also in western part of Europe. London is one of the largest financial centers of the world.
Romans founded this city in AD 34, they called it Londinium. This word later was shortened to what we have now – London. The capital of the United Kingdom has different names in different languages of the countries composing Great Britain — in Irish Londain, in Welsh Llundain, in Scottish Lunnainn.
London was a small city for a very long time. Romans built walls muring the city and all the citizens lived inside these walls. Now this area is called the City of London. But around the city there were many little villages which population increased gradually. After some time (when the Romans left) all these villages were joined into one huge city which is known now as Greater London or just London. In twelfth century London became the capital of England.
In spite of the fact today’s London has many immigrants, most people in this city are British. Immigrants came to London from different countries all over the world, they brought not only their languages but also their cultures and religions. Many foreigners stay in London on business, others visit London as tourists. London offers a lot of sights to see. The most visited are the famous Sights of London which include churches, palaces and museums.
London is considered as one of the most important cities of the world for finance, business and politics. The capital of Great Britain is also important for entertainment, culture, media, art and fashion.

Also known as the Millennium Wheel, London eye was the biggest Ferris wheel in the world until 2006, but even then it remains the largest in Europe. The ride on such tall wheel is called flight. The construction of the wheel ended in 1999 but it remained closed until 2000. When it opened to the public, many people finally could enjoy beautiful view on Thames. London eye offers tourists great observation point so suitable for the photography. In fact, the Millennium Wheel offered the highest public viewing point in London until 2013. Each capsule of the wheel also takes pictures of it’s passengers at the end of the flight. London eye is a great place to visit in London.

As well as being the capital of England, London is the capital of the United Kingdom. London was founded by the Romans in 43 A. D. and was called Londinium. In 61 A. D. the town was burnt down and when it was rebuilt by the Romans it was surrounded by a wall. That area within the wall is now called the City of London. It is London’s commercial and business centre. It contains the Bank of England, the Stock Exchange and the head offices of numerous companies and corporations. Here is situated the Tower of London. The Tower was built by William the Conqueror who conquered England in 1066. He was crowned at Westminster Abbey. Now most of the Government buildings are located there. During the Tudor period (16th century) London became an important economic and financial centre. The Londoners of the Elizabethan period built the first theatres. Nowadays the theatre land is stretched around Piccadilly Circus. Not far from it one can see the British Museum and the Covent Garden Opera House. During the Victorian period (19th century) London was one of the most important centres of the Industrial Revolution. Today London is a great political centre, a great commercial centre, a paradise for theatre-goers and tourists, but it is also a very quiet place with its parks and its ancient buildings, museums and libraries.
